Lough Corrib & Connemara
Lough Corrib - which is right in front of the house and which you see from nearly all the rooms, from the veranda and the garden - is nearly 50 kms long and the largest lake in the Irish republic with 365 islands. The lake provides plenty of opportunities for the fishing and boating enthusiast.
Connemara extends to the west of Lough Corrib and is one of the wildest and also most romantic landscapes in Ireland. It is an area of mountains, lakes and bogs with ever changing moods, patterns and colours. Connemara is ideal for Walking, Hiking, Cycling and all kinds of adventure holidays.(see next page)
Beautiful Lough Nafooey is in short driving distance, as well as the 12 Bens , Joyce Valley, Leenane and Killary Harbour, one of Ireland's very few fjords, a truly dramatic oddity with Connacht's highest mountain, Mweelrea (817m). More information on Lough Corrib and County Galway here
The village of Cong is just 10 minutes away on the border between Counties Galway and Mayo, surrounded by magnificent woodlands with Lough Corrib to the South and Lough Mask to the North. Sights include the ruins of Cong Abbey and Ashford Castle, now a luxurious hotel, and its gardens. Cong also featured prominently in the John Wayne movie " The Quiet Man" , still well remembered
in the village.
